Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of our vision. We share both Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire’s commitment to tackling climate change with an aim to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This commitment has been the guiding principle for our plans for the site. By taking advantage of the site’s convenient location, we can create a new community that encourages active and sustainable travel.

Our proposals consider the impact on the environment at the four key stages of development:

The proposals will be designed to create a community with easy access for cyclists and pedestrians, wildlife and biodiversity corridors and houses designed to maximise daylight.

All buildings will be constructed to a high environmental standard and there will be measures taken to make the entire community sustainable, such as drainage systems and electric vehicle charging points.

With these climate change goals in mind, our homes will be built according to high environmental standards, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and water conservation. We will include measures such as solar panels, triple glazing and water retention schemes, to ensure the development meets the area’s ambitions. Residential areas will also have sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) for water run-off and streets will be tree-lined to create green living areas.

The site has many natural assets that have been taken into account as we shaped our proposals. We are proposing a community where residents can interact with wildlife and nature, and this has been central to our vision. The development will incorporate key sustainable elements that new inhabitants and visitors alike can enjoy, including a water meadow, rewilded river, allotments and new open spaces.

We recognise the importance of preserving wildlife and are committed to delivering net biodiversity gain throughout the site. This will be achieved by creating homes and habitats for nature and retaining existing natural assets.
